CA’s On Tai Centre & Volunteers Win Community Development Award!

Great news! Our On Tai Centre Staff & Volunteers have won the Community Investment Inclusion Fund's (CIIF) Social Capital Builder Logo Award! The category was "Flying over Self-Reliance and Mutual Help—House Captain for On Tai Project”, which recognizes individuals, corporations and organizations for their contributions to the development of social capital in Hong Kong from 2020 to 2022!

On Tai Estate is a relatively new public housing estate with 25,000 residents. To help build social networks we recruited resident volunteers to become House Captains. They then built mutual trust, fostered a spirit of cooperation and social cohesion, and enhanced mutual support among individuals and families. All of this was made possible through funding from the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund (CIIF).

Our services included assistance to families in need and community programmes for 2,486 direct participants, to build a sense that “we are one family”. With the help of 60 House Captains, we offered parent-child workshops, health workshop topics, Christmas carnivals, adventure training activities for primary students, marriage forums and our House Captains make regular home visits. During the fifth wave of the pandemic, some On Tai residents were quarantined in their homes. Our House Captains sprang into action to distribute emergency supplies and cared for approximately 130 residents, especially single elderly residents.

On Tai is a terrific metaphor for the needs of all of us in Hong Kong, and how much can be achieved when we all work together for God’s good!
