Share Food, Share Love
“My husband has just been diagnosed with dementia and I am his sole Carer. This is a tough blow at his stage in life, especially when money is tight. Life does leave me feeling lonely and disconnected at times.
Two years ago a friend introduced me to Christian Action's Choi Wan Centre, and it has become a lifesaver to us. Every weekday we pick up a free bento food box. It’s still hot when we get it home, which saves me both money and time on food preparation!
Another thing that I love about the Choi Wan Centre is that I have made friends with a group of Seniors there and they have become a support network to me. I ask God to continue blessing Christian Action, so that other elderly people like me might have support and care.” - Fong, a Senior at our Choi Wan Centre
Getting disheartened about the burden that some of our neighbours have to shoulder, doesn’t help anyone. The exception however, is if that emotion is channelled into action, which is why we started collaborating with Food Angel in 2017. Together we’re providing meals to vulnerable elderly single residents, single parents and persons with impaired mobility, five days a week!
Initially, we provided 100 bento-style meal boxes per day, but with strong support from the community and Food Angel, we are now able to provide 240 bento-style meal boxes daily!
To maintain service users' health and wellbeing, the meal box is separated into three portions for hot cooked vegetables, the day's meat or fish, and a generous serving of rice.
Through this simple meal box we hope that recipients will see that they are not alone and that Jesus loves them! Click here to support this work!
God bless you, Siew Mei
