One Thousand Attend our Inaugural Multi-ethnic Carnival!

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8
NIV

In Hong Kong, like in so many countries around the world, ethnic minorities are often misunderstood and discriminated against. Because the problem is so widespread and has existed for so long, it is often accepted as the norm. God however, commands us to ‘act justly’ - and that means taking action.

Led by our own ethnic minority social worker, Hari, Christian Action participated in a Multi-ethnic Carnival at Wong Tai Sin Square on 1st of July, celebrating the handover of the HKSAR back to China. There were live cultural performances, workshops, child-friendly activities, and booths that showcased cultural experiences and approximately 1,000 people attended!

As an advocate for Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities, we invited the kids from our ethnic minority programme to come and promote their culture. The locals dropped by our booths to try on South Asian clothing and learn how to write and pronounce the Urdu alphabet, a language that is mostly spoken in South Asia. Many locals wore South Asian clothing for the first time in their lives on that day and they loved the experience!

This first ever multi-ethnic carnival for the Wong Tai Sin community, was an excellent first step in breaking down ethnic barriers and helping locals, to get to know their neighbours and was a hit! I look forward to doing this again next year!
