We’re Partnering With The Police to Combat Crime!
Fraud is on the rise in Hong Kong. Almost every week the media has a new story about scammers swindling someone out of their savings - and sadly the victims are increasingly the elderly, poor and uneducated. In one recent story, for example, a 79 and a 92 year old woman were conned out of a total of HK$330,000! The culprits were caught by the Kwun Tong Police.
Fortunately for Christian Action, and those in our surrounding community, we have a very proactive police force and local officials. And when they invited us to collaborate with them on a five month anti-fraud program we jumped at the opportunity!
To support crime fighting, Christian Action is collaborating with our District Fight Crime Committee (Wong Tai Sin District) and the Hong Kong Police (Wong Tai Sin District Headquarters). We will be hosting five monthly creative workshops at our headquarters. The goal is to increase public awareness and to report any scams they see.
The kick-off event was held at Christian Action on July 8th 2023. Our special guests included Mr. Steve Wong, District Officer (Wong Tai Sin); Mr. Li Tak-hong, Chairman of the District Fight Crime Committee (Wong Tai Sin District); Mr. Wong Chi-yeung, Activity Convener of the District Fight Crime Committee (Wong Tai Sin District) and Ms. Esther Chow, Wong Tai Sin District Assistant Police Community Relations Officer.
I believe that supporting our police's efforts to reduce crime, will help make Hong Kong a safer and better place to live. Together we are working to spread "awareness of the value of crime prevention", to motivate locals to form close bonds with their neighbours, to build cohesive communities, and to raise awareness among themselves.
I praise God for continuing to use Christian Action to the fullest, not only to help those who are most in need, but also to love our neighbours. Siew Mei
