What Does Justice Look Like?

Although it was difficult and heartbreaking to leave her family behind in Indonesia, Siti left for her new career as a Domestic Helper in Hong Kong with hope for a better future. Little did she know that what was waiting for her was unexpected abuse from her new employers! This escalated week by week, from sleeping on the floor to having household gadgets thrown at her at random, which made her feel powerless and frightened for her life.

Seeking help from her employment agent proved to be futile and left her feeling belittled and deeply disappointed. She did not know who to turn to - when it seemed like a miracle, and her sister introduced her to Christian Action to seek help and protection.

A Mid-Autumn Success

‘What good is there in your saying to them, “God bless you! Keep warm and eat well!”—if you don't give them the necessities of life? So it is with faith: if it is alone and includes no actions, then it is dead.’

- James 2:16-17

Scripture calls on all of us to love our neighbor, and that means taking action. Since moving our Headquarters to Choi Wan Christian Action has had the honor of serving many of our neighbors - and it is my pleasure to tell you about one such event that we recently held for our elderly neighbors!

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture; its popularity is on par with that of the Chinese New Year. This year the Festival is on September 29, and is followed closely by National Day, on October 1. To make this a joyous and memorable occasion for our elderly neighbors we invited 160 senior citizens from Choi Wan and Wong Tai Sin to join a "family party" at our Headquarters.

All of the children are from low-income families and would likely never have been able to visit the Museum were it not for TAL’s kindness!

Our Ethnic Minority Children Want Kung Fu Classes!

"Kung Fu is stimulating and difficult at the same time. Each movement improves my physical strength and greatly motivates me to exercise. I really love it!"

- Laibah, age 16

Summer holidays mean different things to different people, but when we asked the children in our ethnic minority program what they would most like to do over the holidays, we were surprised to learn that they wanted to take Chinese Kung Fu lessons!

Aili’s Story

Aili was 5 years old when an agricultural machine severely fractured his right palm. Instantly, he lost all feelings in his palm, with two of the fingers in a twisted position. At the Xinjiang provincial hospital, the parents were horrified to learn that the hospital lacked the right equipment to perform a phalanx fracture procedure. Treatment elsewhere was beyond reach for this desperate family.

The good news in Aili’s story is that thanks to supporters like you, who had already been donating to Christian Action’s China Programme, and thanks to a fundraiser for Aili, we were able to fly him to Shanghai, where his fingers were successfully re-aligned!
