A Dignified Farewell

We all know that death will end every life. Over the past 11 years, Jeffrey Andrews, social worker at our Centre for Refugees, has seen at least eight deaths in the refugee community. In Hong Kong, the unclaimed bodies of refugees are cremated and their ashes are simply discarded. That is a sad thought for Jeff’s clients. They naturally wonder if and when they will one day meet the same fate. Jeff says, “Some of the refugees have been here for over 10 years, so we are their family. I had to do something about this careless handling of the ashes.”

Locating pain online!

Every summer, the team from Hong Kong Baptist University Chinese Medicine (HKBUCM) visits the staff and the teens at our Qinghai Bridge Programme.  They are there to give the staff medical assessments and special-care training. Due to the pandemic, that was not possible this year, so the HKBUCM team hosted an online programme.

Changing Poverty

The Labour and Welfare Bureau first asked Christian Action to run the Child Development Fund (CDF) Projects in 2008. CA has once again been asked to continue our mentorship programme to support 345 new participants in this project.

Our mentors show our students how to set goals for their personal development. The mentors continue to monitor the progress of our students. Despite the pandemic, Zoom helps us maintain our services and the core activities in small groups.

Two Are Better Than One

At Christian Action, we often collaborate with different corporations and service organisations to serve the unserved. One is the Rotary Club of Hong Kong Bayview. Admund joined the Rotary Club at Bayview in 2014 and was president from 2016 to 2017, during his term, he organised various charity projects with CA. He continues to be a compassionate, selfless and humble servant to our community, let’s learn more about him and his work with us!
