Living a ‘God-like’ Life

As we approach the Advent season, which runs from the fourth Sunday before Christmas to Christmas Day, Christians around the world prepare their hearts to celebrate Jesus’ arrival. This is done by focusing on God’s kindness, mercifulness, and compassion, as can be seen in Jesus’ life.

The greatest gift of all is God’s gift of salvation, and the more we focus on this during Advent, the more we should want to serve those who are truly in need.

This Advent I would like to invite you to support the financially or psychological challenged. I am especially thinking of the Carers who serve the sick and aged in their own homes. Oftentimes this is a thankless duty that can physically and emotionally overwhelm Carer to the point of burnout.

Children’s Wellbeing In Sub-Divided Units Is Our Concern

Our Mong Kok Service Centre (MKC) is located in Yau Tsim Mong, which is one of Hong Kong’s poorest and densely populated locations. The buildings are generally very old and there are many “subdivided units,” or “horrible housing” options. Because the units are so cramped, most of the children living in them don’t have even have a desk or dining table to sit at and do their homework. If they’re lucky they may have a small chair, but many have to do their homework in bed.

A Meal Like No Other

“Although having Poon Choi for dinner may not seem like a big deal to you, these children have never had it before, so this special treat means a lot to them.”

DaDa, a social worker from our Mong Kok Center who accompanied the children to the Yau Yat Chuen Garden City Club’s Poon Choi festival.

Legend has it that during the Song Dynasty, when the Mongols invaded China, Emperor Bing and his troops fled to a village in the New Territories region of Hong Kong. The villagers cooked them a delicious dishes with the finest of ingredients, only to discover that they didn’t have enough bowls to serve everyone. Their ingenious solution was to stack the cooked food, layer upon layer, in large wooden wash basins!

Helping Women Get Gainful Employment

At Christian Action, we are continually helping disadvantaged women along the path of self sufficiency. With this in mind, together with Kowloon Federation of Associations, Yau Tsim Mong District Office, and Kowloon Federation of Associations Women Affairs Committee, we organized the “Brighten Your Sky” Career Fair to assist women in finding suitable employment on 15th September 2023, at Henry G. Leong Yaumatei Community Centre.
