Europe is facing a refugee crisis. But Hong Kong's tensions about refugees should not be News! We've been there before and we have survived a massive number of refugees before. I'm sure we can all remember the Vietnamese people who flooded into Hong Kong.
So why does it seem different this time?

No, not the stock market! I'm referring to the generosity of the Association of Yau Ma Tei Wholesale Fruit Market. That's where the working hours of men and women begin at 4 a.m.
Perhaps because they understand what it's like to work hard, they willingly stepped in to help others in a challenging situation.

Spring is quickly approaching and boy, am I thankful! This winter saw the coldest temperatures in Hong Kong in almost 60 years. Record lows sent many of Hong Kong's residents indoors, huddled next to their heaters, but not Christian Action!

Our current headquarters at New Horizons Building and the surrounding area was once known as Kai Tak Refugee Camp. It was a temporary home for thousands of people who fled Vietnam in the 70's and 80's. They were often referred to as the Vietnamese Boat People. In February, I met with Thanh Tazumi, a former refugee, who came to revisit, reflect and remember that part of her life.
After 90 treacherous days at sea with 11 family members, Thanh landed in Hong Kong in 1981. She was only a child, but she clearly recalls her emotions: "I was so happy to be off that boat. I remember being in awe of all the lights. I was from the Vietnamese countryside and had never seen so many lights!"

People across the world will be celebrating the Easter holiday this weekend. This is a particularly significant time for Christians like me. We celebrate the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which was an historic event that changed the world.
