God still Leads us to Care!

Hi to all you caring readers during this very busy time of year! This week I’m sharing with you a short but very exciting thing that’s been happening in the area of rehabilitation of those who are disabled.  As you know, our Xining Rehab Centre has been a God-send for the children and community there.  But now our staff are helping to train staff from the rehab centre of another organisation – this one in Lanzhou, which has been one of the centres of China’s national nuclear power industry.

Apart from being able to help train others in the area of rehabilitation, our staff member, Cindy Pearson, is so excited for another reason.  Here are some of her words:

In Shanghai, Dr. Denise Challis, one of the top Neurodevelopment/ Neurodisability Paediatricians in Britain, was training on the Griffiths Mental Development Scales (an assessment method).  She invited me to join the training and become a fully certified tester.  It was a rare opportunity because in the whole of China at present there are about 70 doctors trained in how to use this assessment, and we were the first group of special education teachers.  I am now one of 13 special education teachers in China able to use the assessment (the rest are all Chinese.)

This will greatly benefit our center in the area of assessing student's abilities.
Dr Denise has also donated her assessment kit which cost 9000 RMB (US$1,350).  She is committed to coming out to Qinghai in the next year or so to train our staff in how to use it.

What a fantastic opportunity as in about a year the Griffiths method will be the first developmental assessment that has Chinese standardization.  Amazing!  And Christian Action will already be on board!

Praise God with us for continuing to lead us in rescuing and restoring disabled and abandoned children and in transforming the communities in which they live. Please help by donating, spreading the word and praying. Thank you!
