Mommies fix boo-boos!

Maintaining contact with adoptive families is important to me, and I regularly correspond via email or by sending birthday cards to our precious children who have gone to live with their forever families. I recently received a letter from Donna Arnold, relating a conversation she had with her adoptive daughter, Carly, now four years old. They were looking at photographs of their departure from Hong Kong two years ago when I said goodbye to Carly. When I read the letter below, it brought tears to my eyes!

Carly saw a picture of you that we took before we brought her home. She asked me if you were her China mommy. I asked her why she thought that and she said, "Because she is pretty and we have the same hair and because she is nice like you, mommy." I did explain that although you were not her China mommy, that you were a very important person in her life and the lives of the other children in Xining. I told her it was because of you and Christian Action that her lip "boo boo" [her cleft lip and palate] was fixed and she was so loved and cared for.  She said, "Then even though she is not really my China mommy she acts like a mommy. Because mommies love and care and fix boo-boos." I smiled and said, "I suppose you are right." She is a clever little girl.
There are still many children in Qinghai with "boo-boos". Some of their disabilities are visible, and others have emotional scars due to neglect, abandonment or loss of parents. No matter how or why children come into our care, thanks to your support and prayers Christian Action can continue to take away some of the "boo-boos" and provide appropriate, often life saving, medical procedures wherever possible!
