The Year of the Horse

2014 is the year of the horse according to the Lunar Calendar. It is considered to be a good year, a year of good fortune. In the Bible, horses represent power (among other things), which in modern terms means money.

Perhaps the most important thing I have learnt during 30 years in ministry is that we should not allow the lack of money to stop us from helping someone in need, or starting a project that will reach those who are in real need.  Christian Action has regularly confronted poverty and suffering amongst the people we serve, and I have had to constantly turn to God as I faced situations that seemed impossible to solve – situations where there was no money to invest  in something that would benefit those who needed help.  I believe that every aspect of Christian Action’s work has been a response to God’s calling to serve the poor and lost. Through prayer, I have seen miracle after miracle, many of which have been recorded in this very blog!

That doesn’t mean I believe that money will just fall from the sky! God has also provided Christian Action with the means to fulfill our calling.  He has brought donors to partner with us; donors who may not be rich by the world’s standards, but who are generously rich in their willingness to help those far less fortunate; donors who are themselves blest as they give their money to achieve our God-given goals.

I will continue to prayerfully trust that God will move the hearts of people to give to Christian Action in 2014.  This year, I am not celebrating the year of the horse simply because it is considered to be a good year, but because God, the giver of all good things, created the horse!
