Introducing HK to Newcomers

Giving time is just as important as giving money to various charities. At Christian Action we couldn't do without the wonderful service given by many volunteers – especially during the Summer holidays.

When one or both parents are working, their children suffer. There's no one to take the kids away from their crowded apartments and give them a fun outing.
On August 15th, the children at Mongkok Centre had an amazing opportunity to step outside their usual surroundings and experience an exciting new part of Hong Kong: The Hong Kong Science Museum. As if that wasn't thrilling enough, the children also got to visit the featured exhibit: Eternal Life: Exploring Ancient Egypt!
When the children and volunteers arrived in our centre that morning, the place was buzzing with energy and excitement. It encourages me to know there are many caring members of our community who dedicate time to helping these children have fun, learn about Hong Kong, and ultimately become well-adjusted members of society.
My colleagues made a well-coordinated trip to the museum via bus and were greeted warmly by museum staff who gathered the children into a classroom to teach them briefly about the Egypt exhibit. The children were clearly interested, but what they were really waiting to see were the mummies and artefacts! One of the volunteers, Noel, laughingly commented that some of the little girls were a little scared of the mummies. I honestly sympathise with them.
I thank God for giving Christian Action the opportunity to ensure poor children do not get left out of having fun just like the rest of their peers in Hong Kong.
