How One Person Helped Over 4,000

It all began with a local pastor encouraging his congregation to bring the good news to others through acts of love. Dr. Charmaine Tse, one of his church members, heard that message and determined that she had to do something to help Hong Kong’s Covid-19 despairing masses - but what? This week I’d like to share the amazing back story behind Gone! 40,000 Face Masks!

Charmaine spent that Sunday evening after hearing her pastor's words thinking and praying about what she could do, then telephoned me the next morning. I explained how one of Christian Action’s goals is to serve the community in partnership with churches. It was then that she suggested distributing free masks. The idea was perfect! We immediately collaborated, made calls and held meetings and before long an army of volunteers from 15 churches, NGOs, political group’s representatives and Christian Action staff had joined forces!

Charmaine was a human dynamo - she raised funds among her friends to purchase masks and rice, poured herself into event planning and was then on the ground for both days of the event doing everything from welcoming, managing volunteers, evangelism, interceding and preaching.

The event also got a huge boost from the ONE2020 Hearing the Word Campaign, who were fabulous partners. They brought their booth, created a great atmosphere with games, printed up bible QR cards, had their Proclaimer set up to allow the recipients of the blessing bags to listen to the word of God and more. Aaron Tan, the Chairman of Faith Comes by Hearing Asia also made a wonderful video recording of the event - click here to view it!

Lastly, what began with the question ‘what can I do?’ became over 200 volunteers, 15 churches and donors, NGOs and political group’s representatives serving 4,000 poor elderly and community members! Over 150 people came to know Jesus, and have been linked up with two local churches - Halleluiah!

“For the Kingdom of God is not about eating or drinking, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit – Romans 14:17”
