Safeguarding our Refugee Children

The children of refugees and asylum seekers are one of the most vulnerable groups that Christian Action serves in Hong Kong. Just as Jesus cared for the children who were brought to him in Mark 10, we must protect the approximately 150 refugee children our Centre for Refugees (CFR) currently interacts with.

We are pleased to have partnered with the international NGO Save The Children in adopting their Child Safeguarding Policies. These have been implemented in all of Christian Action's programmes to ensure a culture of awareness, accountability and cooperation. Every volunteer and intern must read and sign the Child Safeguarding Policy before serving our refugee children.

Save the Children also provided invaluable training to our CFR staff and volunteers. Most recently, using what they learned from these workshops, CFR’s young adult volunteers designed and led a whole summer camp programme for 30 of our refugee children! The kids loved the fun-filled camp!

Because of their predicament, the lives of Hong Kong's refugees and asylum seekers are often filled with stress. To help with this we conduct “Parenting Positive” workshops. These focus on parenting skills and in doing so make for a safer home environment for their children.

Please join me in thanking God and praying for our CFR team, the refugees and asylum seekers and their children.

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” -Mark 10:14
