God’s Healing through Nurturing

Fergus Oliver can’t speak Cantonese, nor does he know the crushing poverty that over 235,000 of Hong Kong’s children and teens have to navigate each day. What the Founder of Sports 100, a Hong Kong based collective of sports coaches, does understand, is that great things can happen with team work! Moved by the plight of Hong Kong’s underprivileged children, Mr Oliver recently donated his time and skills through our Child Development Fund (CDF) to run a Sports Leadership Programme for a select group of our teens.

One of our program participants was Kelvin, a High School student. Kelvin lives in a single parent household and lacks the loving support and nurture that teens need. It has negatively affected his mental well-being and his ability to concentrate his studies. Not surprisingly Kelvin suffers from low self-esteem and has thought of running away from home.

The good news is that Kelvin is an elite athlete on a Hong Kong team and when he learned about Fergus Oliver’s Sports Leadership Programme he jumped at the chance to participate.

Coach Fergus’ program focused on leadership, athletic skills and self-confidence. He said at the end of the programme, “I have seen huge leaps in the confidence of the students”. Kelvin agreed saying “I have much more self-confidence through different coaching practices. The feedback I got from Coach Fergus and my fellow sportsmen showed me that I can be a leader. I hope to use my sports experience to nurture and help others explore their athletic skills and interests!”

Poverty robs children of options. With your support, many more children and teens like Kelvin will be helped through our Child Development Fund. Will you please donate now and help the children?

that God has given me to what
God has asked us to do.” Coach Fergus
