New Beginnings!
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)
After moving our headquarters to Choi Wan, we hoped to offer digital learning to the underprivileged. Unfortunately, the pandemic, lack of funding and appropriate partners hampered the development of that project. But as we know, God works in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform!
In August 2020, Christian Action invited Rev. Peter Ho, Co-Founder of Evangelical Free Church of China (EFCC) Tung Fook Church, and his wife Shirley Loo, to join a tour of our Choi Wan headquarters. The tour was led by the Project IC of Digital Learning Centre, Albert Lee. When they were leaving, Shirley asked whether we had any prayer requests. Albert told her of the need for our Digital Learning Centre.
After praying together, Shirley offered to message Ling Hung, Head of Development of Hong Kong Education City, to see if she could help make our dreams come true. In just half an hour, our first collaboration was born! The first parents’ seminar was three months later, with Ling as the guest speaker. How blest we are!
During our collaboration with Ling, she connected us with Microsoft, which has a funding scheme coordinated by Hong Kong Council of Social Services Web Organic for the unemployed in 2021. However, we only had a week to hand in the proposal before the final deadline. Our staff worked hard to finish the proposal in time. We finally received the funding from Microsoft! It will help improve the employability of almost 70 unemployed adults. We will accomplish this through three digital skills training classes.
We also put together a pandemic-friendly virtual job fair for those who aren’t supposed to leave home. Four training bodies participated, including Christian Action. The event began in May and we welcomed 300 job-seekers who are past or current graduates or trainees under the “Microsoft #YouthSpark” and “Microsoft #FutureReady” training programmes. We are truly honoured to have been appointed by Microsoft as the official planning and organising NGO for the job fair.
Since connecting us with Ling, Shirley has stayed abreast of the whole project, often asking us for updates and praying for us.
Partnerships from Ling kept coming, and our Choi Wan location now offers more courses on digital learning, plus parent workshops.
As Ling says, nothing is a coincidence under God, and as we know, all things work together for good for those who love him!
