A Witness of Faith
Mr. Anthony Bux, a Kwun Tong District Councillor and elected member, has announced that he will resign in June so that he can focus on combating a serious illness.
When we received the news about his health, our staff and I were deeply saddened and very worried. Anthony has been a long-term friend of Christian Action, and for six years he has been passionate about serving the community. I vividly remember the beginning of our journey. It began with the fight to retain the site of our former headquarters at Kai Tak Open Camp. Anthony later became one of our companions in a year-long negotiation with the government about the site of our new headquarters at Choi Wan.
We also collaborated in collecting second-hand clothing and household items from residents. We organised skill enhancement workshops to help local elders, families and women. The memories of working together has transformed our relationship from being working partners into being family members.
Anthony suffers from hip joint pain and clogged arteries associated with the disease, but his smile continues to be his hallmark.
God does miraculous things, so I have been praying for God’s supernatural healing power for Anthony. On April 22, Marlon and I invited him to pray with us to seek God’s healing power together. Anthony said there were moments when he felt weak in his faith. We told him that God has given us his helper, the Holy Spirit, to strengthen us.
Anthony said in his testimony, that when he had visited Marlon’s office, he "was asked to sit relaxed with both palms faced up and [his] eyes were closed." Marlon then commenced his prayer. "Firstly, he asked for the clearance of the blockage of my arteries. Suddenly he placed a finger in my palm and prayed for the healing on my hip. At that moment in time, my hip muscle jumped and I felt hot and began to sweat all over my body. The whole prayer was short and lasted for just 2 to 3 minutes. When we all opened our eyes, we were all surprised that I was so hot and my shirt was wet. I am not sure if I am healed immediately but my faith is restored by feeling the healing power of the Holy Spirit.”
One night, while he was in hospital, Anthony alerted Marlon to pray for him because of his sharp pain. He said, “It hurt so much, I asked God to take me home - but I finally fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning I felt better. The pain was gone. I did not know that Marlon’s friends in the Healing Room had been praying for me at the precise time that I was in utmost pain. I was awed at the power of prayers and that God chose to bring comfort to me.” Anthony was discharged a week later.
In the Bible, it says, “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it.” All of our staff at Christian Action are united in our earnest prayers for Anthony’s final victory in his battle against the disease.
