Back By Popular Demand - the Magnificent Mooncake!

‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ – Acts 20:35

When I think of the Mid-Autumn Festival I think of my family and my mum. Every Mid-Autumn she would prepare small yams, star fruit, and pomelos. Mooncakes were expensive back in Malaysia when I was a child, but because they are central to the Festival, mimicking the roundness of the full moon and symbolizing prosperity and reunion for the whole family, she always made sure we had them.

Since last year, Christian Action has held a special Mid-Autumn Festival fundraiser so we could get mooncakes and fruit baskets to families in need. It has proved very popular and I am pleased to announce that around 4,000 mooncakes have been purchased by donors and charity collaborators so far!

One of our corporate donors this year was The Boston Consulting Group. They kindly purchased mooncakes and fruit baskets and then visited our Mongkok Service Centre to distribute them to the low-income families there!

One lady who received mooncakes was Mrs. Chan, who shared the following-

‘I live with my husband and our two special needs sons in a sub-divided apartment in Sham Shui Po. My parents live in the mainland, but because of the pandemic we haven’t been able to see them for the last three Mid-Autumn Festivals. I am so grateful for these mooncakes from Christian Action donors as they’re a delicacy in our family. I plan to keep the mooncakes until the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, when my sons, husband and myself will use WeChat to video conference my parents and share our mooncakes with them virtually!’
