A Tribute to Nazma

The tragic end to a well-lived life is always a time of sadness mixed with admiration for all the good that was achieved. This is especially so when self-sacrifice is the hall-mark of the person we are mourning.

We only knew Nazma, a 35-year-old Muslim asylum-seeker, for a short time, but it was obvious to us that hers was a life of loving self-sacrifice, so we take this opportunity to pay tribute to her and to ask you to pray for her three children following their mother's brutal murder.

Zhuo Ma's vision

Two weeks ago I wrote about Zhuo Ma who needed surgery to repair the burn injuries caused to her face and hand before she came to Huangnan Children's home.

Zhuo Ma's visit to Hong Kong for surgery has been a landmark event for her and a rewarding experience for us.

Dollar for dollar reaps joy!

Two years ago, Mrs Chan, a single mother who is among the poorest in Hong Kong, told us "I am worried about my son. I don't earn enough to send him to university and I really want him to have better opportunities than I had."

We were about to embark on our Child Development Fund to help poor young people in HK develop their personal interests outside school boundaries, so Mrs. Chan's son, Cho Hing, was among our first intake of youth.

Providing the blink of an eye!

Zhou Ma was only five when she came to our Huangnan Children's Home.  The burns to her face and left hand were a testimony to yet another accident by fire.  When I first saw Zhou Ma I was reminded of a baby boy who had sustained third degree burns over 60% of his body in a fire. He would have died had it not been for the timely intervention of Christian Action and our partner medical agency in 1999.
