From Defeat to Triumph

Hussain became a refugee and asylum seeker when he was just 19 years old. Forced to flee his home in Somalia, he eventually found his way to Hong Kong in 2010.

Shortly thereafter he nervously entered our Centre for Refugees (CFR) in Chung King Mansions and was told that in order to survive he had to learn English.

Hope Today, Empower Now, Impact Tomorrow. Whoever. Whenever. Wherever.

Did you know that the United Nations designated June 20th as World Refugee Day? Our Centre for Refugees has been honouring refugees around the globe with a variety of fabulous live performances and crafts!

Hong Kong’s refugees and asylum seekers suffered tremendously during the fifth wave of COVID. Many families were isolated, confused, lonely and lacked food. In response our Centre for Refugees staff helped sustain the refugees with mental health visits, information, food and other vital supplies.

‘Vaya con Dios’

“When I first came to work at Xining Rehabilitation Centre, there were 30 children, three classes and six very inexperienced teachers. Some of them had no teaching qualifications at all. Undaunted, I coached them to work with children who have mild to severe special education needs. Five years later there were 80 children, 9 classes and sixteen teachers who were capable of continuing the work that I started. Caring for these children was hard work, but the teachers were very receptive, they loved the children and it was wonderful to see the progress they made day by day.”

Celebrating The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club!

The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club (the Club) loves Hong Kong and Qinghai’s most marginalised and neglected communities.

In 2012 the Club enthusiastically partnered with us to organise and host a 3-Legged Fundraising Race on their gorgeous grounds. The event was a huge hit and instantly morphed into an annual event!

“An elderly gentleman in the neighbourhood needed surgery. His relationship with his family members had deteriorated and he felt depressed and alone. On hearing this, I took the initiative to visit him and to assure him that he wasn’t alone and that help was close by.
